This is me. Living my dream. When I was little, I either wanted to be a Time/Life operator because I’d be able to wear a headset with a microphone for work or an Astronaut to explore the unknown. But for as long as I can remember, I really wanted to be a teacher. And here I am, helping those little ones learn how to read and think deeply about the world around them WHILE I WEAR A HEADSET and Explore new horizons in eductation! I mean does it get any better?!? Seriously, the start to this school year has been harder and more emotional than I ever could have expected, but I get to walk these hallways and see a group of people that I consider a family push through what seemed impossible and inspire children to do their best. Nothing could have prepared me for walking into my first in person class in seven months and have the kids reach out for an air hug. Nothing could have prepared me for walking into my first team teaching class since Covid shut us all down to my colleague saying there is no one I’d rather be figuring this out with. In the past week, I have seen every one of my coworkers break and I have seen everyone of them rise up again. I have no more fingernails and have sat on my kitchen floor in tears, but look at this, I got back up and I get to wear a headset!
Education runs in our family. Mom and five of us girls all went into teaching. We joke that we could open a school and staff it entirely with our family. We have all had a different journey to teaching, but the call to the profession was answered with lots of love. Family gatherings can turn into professional learning communities. As we navigate through teaching during a global pandemic, we thought we could share our experiences with others.
