This is the space in my house that I call the office. I originally thought to set it up as a quiet space where I could do some serious writing. But the purpose of this space, just like almost everything else in the past 7 months, changed almost over night. I grabbed an old white board and repurposed an old desk lamp and it became a virtual classroom. This is a common story from the homes of educators across the country. But this “classroom” has a twist. Some days it was my classroom and some days it was my mom’s classroom. On days when I had to go into school and my ten year old son had classes from home, my mom came and set up in this space. Today when she left, it hit me...this was an amazing time that we all got to share. My mom and Giuseppe got to share lunches and recess together. I got to come home and swap stories of remote learning with her. And the puppy would run to greet her each morning. The past few months have been a roller coaster of emotions and I couldn’t be happier to have shared some incredible moments with my colleague and mom. Thanks, mom, you are the best!
Also, take some time to look at this picture and you will see what a day in the world of remote learning is... complete with a cucumber left from a fifth grade scavenger hunt. Not pictured are the bags that transferred each of our teaching supplies or the notes left for eachother or the Kahoot that Giuseppe made for us to play at the end of the day to learn more about one another.
